Discover your Island

Thailand's islands have earned a justifiable reputation from travelers all over the world for their stunning natural beauty, world-class diving, year-round outdoor adventure and laid-back vibe. Outrigger is proud to be your gateway to discovering Thailand's island for yourself.

Dangling just off the west coast, surrounded by the emerald waters of the Andaman Sea, sits the island of Phuket, one of Thailand's most famous and naturally stunning islands. Bordered by seascapes of clear waters, mysterious limestone cliffs and palm-lined white sand shorelines, the island's well-known beaches are just the beginning of the rich discoveries to be found on the "Pearl of the Andaman." Phuket also boasts a lush jungle interior, a storied history, and vibrant nightlife and shopping to rival some of the best in the world. Whether traveling as a couple, family, or group of friends, you will find new adventures every time you visit.

Exploring the outdoors

The prime reasons to visit these islands are for the famous beaches. Scattered all around the coastlines of both islands are beaches to satisfy whatever kind of holiday you're looking for. People-watch all afternoon as you sunbathe and have an on-the-spot foot massage on the high-profile beaches of Patong, Kata and Karon on Phuket.

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the tropical hideaways of beaches like Nai Harn, Layan and Pon on Phuket. These beaches remain tucked-away enclaves where you can feel like it's just you, the sea, and the palm tree shading you overhead. One of the best ways to find the pristine and naturally beautiful beaches of the island is to stay at a resort, which often has its own stretch of quiet sand.

Though Phuket beaches rival many of the world's best, the surrounding smaller islands in Phang Nga Bay and the Andaman Sea are also tempting, and the ease of ferry or private speedboat travel make for great day trips or overnight stays. For the avid diver, the Similan Islands offer some of the best dive sites in the world, while the avid beach bum will love the laid-back vibe and stunning scenery of Koh Phi Phi.

Play in the shade

After a day filled with exploring the wonders of the surrounding coral reefs and mangrove forests - or else just the distance from your beach towel to the water - Phuket has many options for entertainment and dining. In the evening, Muay Thai boxing matches offer a unique look at a very Thai sport, while the buzzing night markets and ever-popular bars lining Phuket's Patong can keep you dancing till the wee hours of the morning.

Even in a tropical paradise like these, we all need a break from the same scenery every now and again. Fortunately, the islands offer other options a bit farther away from the water. Enjoy shopping in upscale shopping centers or browsing through elite galleries or just bargaining with street-side vendors for the perfect holiday trinket. Phuket Town can itself be a destination to observe as you shop - its Sino-Thai architecture and tree-lined streets lend the town a nostalgic air of times gone by.

Don't shop 'til you drop, though - take a breather in one of many restaurants, known for their fresh seafood and southern Thai specialties. Just like the shopping, restaurants can range from humble street stalls with amazing specialties to world-class gourmet dining experiences. While the pristine beaches and surrounding waters might be the main draw to Phuket, the island cultural charms are a valuable part of every experience.
