Island Hopping Around Koh Samui

Located in the Gulf of Thailand in an island archipelago, Koh Samui has access to other amazing islands in the area. You should definitely put a spot of island hopping atop of your To-Do List when here. From this beginning you will be able to enjoy pristine beaches, kayaking, secluded lagoons and breathtaking viewpoints only one or two hours from Samui by speedboat (departing Bophut pier).

A good starting point for any exploration in the area is the magical island chain of Ang Thong Marine Park, which can be visited on a full-day trip to three different islands: Wao Island, Tai Phow Island and Mae Kho Island. The sandbar beaches, formed by the ocean’s currents interacting with the three peaks of the island, are unique to the world. Their beauty will take your breath away.

The combination of the wonders of the underwater world surrounding Koh Samui and the aquatic freedom that snorkelling grants one is an intoxicating mix. Simply gliding through the warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand and taking in the exotic marine life is mesmerising and many full and half-day tours offer the best of this magical world. Surrounding islands offer the chance of a lifetime to spot the wildlife below the waves in the crystal clear water. Diving in Koh Samui, Koh Tao and other island is spectacular.

One of the best places to encounter beautiful ocean life is at Nang Yuan, a small island 90 minutes from Samui. After you’ve had your fill there, continue on to nearby Koh Tao (translated as ‘Turtle Island’, so named because of its shape) where you can stop for lunch at a local beachside restaurant. Then spend your afternoon snorkelling, sunbathing or simply relaxing under a coconut palm.

Or why not simply see the beaches of Koh Samui in a different way! During a boat trip around the island you will pass some of the most stunning beaches and coves: Big Buddha Bay, Choengmon Bay, Chaweng Bay, Lamai Bay, Hua Thanon Bay, Koh Mudsum and Koh Tan. A BBQ-style picnic lunch will be prepared on a sandy beach along the way for you and there will be opportunities for snorkelling and sunbathing.
